Physical Activity and Health Promotion

The physical activity and health promotion option provides training on the promotion of physical activity and healthy lifestyles in various community-based settings including worksites, schools, hospitals, and other community agencies. Students obtain broad coverage on behavioral and psychological aspects of physical activity, as well as complementary coverage in nutrition and weight control. Careers for graduates of this program include worksite wellness programming, health coaching, and health promotion programming in schools, hospitals, and other community agencies.

Coursework

Coursework includes:

  • Exercise and health behavior

  • Nutrition and prevention of chronic diseases

Internship (Field Experience)

An internship is required for all students in the Physical Activity and Health Promotion option. The experience takes students out into their career field for a minimum of 10 weeks and a minimum of 320 hours of hands-on learning. The field experience is usually completed during the senior year in the area which most closely matches the student’s career goals.
