New Plagiarism Detection Tool

A new, more integrated, TurnItIn tool is available in Canvas for generating similarity reports (plagiarism checks) of student work. To use it, create an assignment and set submission type = Online, then check the ‘File Uploads’ box. A new Plagiarism Review setting appears: set the review tool = TurnItIn. Doing so causes additional settings to appear where you can indicate where to store the new student submission, what it should be compared to, and which items should be excluded from the report. There is also an option to specify if and when students can see the report. A rubric can be added in the normal way after the activity is saved. If an instructor wishes, they can create a rough draft assignment that provides the student with a similarity report and does not store their paper in the comparison database. This allows students to check their work before submitting it to a final assignment for grading.
