Responsibilities

My responsibilities included: Learn Phase I and II cardiac rehabilitation processes in a AAVCPR certified cardiac rehabilitation program, learning basic telemetry monitoring and interpreting EKG strips, monitoring patients throughout exercise using RPE scale and taking resting, exercise and recover blood pressures, lead stretching, give exercise knowledge, assisting patients with weight and band exercises, help adjust exercise prescriptions, assist with 6 minute walk tests, class preparation, and some office duties.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment through this internship was helping patients get healthier and grow throughout their cardiac rehabilitation program. This is a very rewarding job, and it’s amazing watching the transition from start to finish of each individual. Some of my other goals throughout the internship at Mary Greeley were to get better and more confident at taking blood pressures and reading telemetry strips. I got the opportunity to practice these every day and became much, much better at both throughout my internship with the guidance of many informative nurses.

What advice would you give?

1.)Get started early with finding the right career paths for yourself. Each experience/internship you get teaches you something new about different programs, about yourself and your interests. 2.)Interpersonal skills are essential! 3.)Be ambitious with what you want to do and everything will work out, even if it’s not the way you planned it to happen.
