Conducting senior fitness tests, analyzing SFT's and recommending classes for individuals, leading exercise classes for a wide range of abilities for individuals 55+, leading Total Brain Health classes, working one-on-one with post-rehab patients, keeping residents and participants engaged in wellness activities, creating informational/promotional material for different activities or programs taking place in the wellness center, implementing an employee wellness program, and assisting with various activities around campus.

Each day I was able to help those that came to class better their health, as well as work on something that I was not very confident in, which is speaking in front of groups. After my internship, I am more comfortable talking in front of small to large groups of people than I ever have been. Receiving feedback from residents and participants that I am helping them gave me confidence and helped me get over my nervousness of crowds.

What advice would you give?

Although it can be scary, step out of your comfort zone and try new things. People are not actually judging you as critically as you think they are. Speak up and form relationships with those around you - you not only make connections but it also makes your job even more enjoyable. Take every opportunity to try something new, as it could become your favorite part of your job after experiencing it.
