Responsibilities

I started my internship by shadowing personal trainers and understanding the different training styles that each of the trainers had. I also learned how each trainer programmed a workout for their client's goals and limitations. Eventually, I started to train my own clients which included a variety of ages, individual goals, limitations, etc, in order for me to find my niche as a trainer. I also taught a group fitness class every Tuesday and Thursday called Strictly Strength. This class focuses on strength training and building muscle. Other responsibilities I had were to post on social media once a week, run a body composition challenge called the "Inbody Challenge", create workout programs, and make sure the gym is organized.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was being able to help clients and members progress in their fitness journey based on their goals while also building a relationship with them. Along the way, I gained confidence as a trainer and continued to build my own skills.

Learning experience

I learned how building relationships with clients is key when it comes to personal training. It is important for the client to know that they have someone who supports them and pushes them in order for them to reach their goal.

What advice would you give?

My advice is to get out of your comfort zone and try things you wouldn't normally do. It is a great way to learn, gain experience, and gain confidence in your field. Ask questions, get as much experience before and during your internship, and continue to work towards your own individual goals.
