Overall Experience

My experience in Australia was so awesome! I had the opportunity to travel to many places in Australia and New Zealand during the semester. I lived on campus with all Australian roommates but was able to connect with students all over the world through the international student organizations. All of the amazing places I saw and the friendships I established made my time abroad the best time of my life!

Memorable experience

My most memorable experience was when I got scuba certified at the Great Barrier Reef. I had hardly even seen the ocean before I went to Australia, so it was such an incredible experience to see all of the creatures in their beautiful habitat with a few friends I made from school.

What advice would you give?

My advice to any student looking into studying abroad is to find a program that seems to fit you and go for it! Living and studying in another country is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you should take it! I made so many memories and friendships that I will never forget and you can too!

How has this experience impacted your life?

Being in another country all by myself forced me out of my comfort zone in many aspects of my life. Not knowing anyone forced me to open up to a lot of new people and I gained quite a bit of confidence in talking to any new person I meet. From an educational standpoint, I adjusted to a different teaching method, which I think will be helpful as I look toward graduate school. This experience also made me feel more confident in my ability to travel wherever I want to in the world.

How did you learn about this experience?

I learned about this program through searching the Iowa State Study Abroad website. Through my research I discovered this program best suited what I was looking for in my study abroad experience.
