Responsibilities

My duties at the lab varied between setting the gym up for RESIST session interventions, leading the participants through the one-on-one training sessions, tracking all of their sets/repetitions and teaching both the provided warmup & cooldowns. Outside of running the intervention sessions I was also in charge of creating posters for our warmup and cooldowns, creating and editing videos of the exercise movements, including the provided at-home band workouts, charting and creating figures across excel, and hitting weekly progression goals for each meeting. I was also in charge of facility maintenance with the basic cleaning, and lubricating of the machines.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment throughout the internship was noticing a visible difference in mood and demeanor, week-to-week as they progress, for each and every participant that signed up for our intervention study.

Learning experience

Working in a research based setting, I learned that attention to detail is everything. A common error in data tracking could lead to a gaggle of obstacles that would need to be corrected in the future. The same can be said for training, with just how important attention to detail is.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future Kin majors is to not be afraid of sticking your neck out to different. If you want to network and create a future for yourself, yes you need to be educated and professional, but to accomplish your dreams, you will have to stand-out from the crowd. Find your way of standing out!
