Iowa State Fair
Assistant Professor Janice Baker judges for the Riley Talent Competition each year. This is a televised event that carries a $5,000.00 cash prize. Dancers from New Visions Dance Project with Dance Place dancers perform on the Fun Forest Stage. Janice hosts a daily 4:30 p.m. dance party on the Fun Forest Stage.
Iowa Dance Theatre
Assistant Professor Janice Baker is the project director for the annual production of “Dracula, A Comedy Noir.” Performed in Des Moines, this two-act ballet tours to the Iowa State Campus. Assistant Professor Baker also teaches master classes, choreographs, and occasionally dances with this group.
Iowa State Dance Tour Company
This chamber-sized group provides lecture demonstrations on and off campus.
Des Moines Art Festival
We provide dance/movement activities for Iowa State Extension’s tent during this three day event. Creative activities with the crowd are highly celebrated at this historically hot event. We also have performed at the Art Festival at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Seven Generation Multi-Cultural White Eagle Pow Wow
We are invited to perform for this event yearly at Jester Park, Iowa.
Summer Dance Workshop
Once a three- to four-day event, we now have Super Saturdays in Des Moines in cooperation with Iowa Dance Theatre.
Dance at Heartland Senior Center
Weekly dancing session of “in our chairs ” for social interaction and range of motion set to music by dance faculty Janice Baker. Come join in intergenerational dance good for the mind and the body.
Mainstream Living Comes to Dance at Iowa State
Monthly dance sessions are hosted by Iowa State Dance and students. Friendships are fostered and dance moves celebrated during our program “Dancing Friends”.
