Meet your 2022-2023 Transfer Student Learning Community Peer Mentors!

Carolyn

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology
Option(s): Pre-Physician Assistant
Hometown: Polk City, Iowa
About me: I love hanging out with friends, reading, going on walks, and being outside. My favorite thing to do on campus is to go hammocking with my friends. If I had a superpower, it would be shapeshifting.

Eryn

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology and Health
Option(s): Pre-Human Medicine
Hometown: Houghton, Iowa
About me: I spent my first two years of college studying and playing collegiate volleyball at Des Moines Area Community College before transferring to Iowa State. I love spending my free time hanging out with friends and going to the gym! My favorite class so far here at Iowa State definitely has to be HS 350 (Human Diseases).

Gwen

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology and health
Option(s): Pre-Occupational Therapy
Hometown: Mason City, Iowa
About me: Hi, you can call me Gwen! I transferred to ISU from NIACC in Fall of 2020, so this will be my second year as a Cyclone! One fun fact about me is that I used to be a music major at NIACC, and I participated in dance team, show choir and concert band. I switched to kinesiology because of my love of fitness and passion to go into health care. Another fun fact is that I’ve been super into sports and fitness my whole life! I’m a dancer, swimmer, and runner, and also am a member of Max Oxygen CrossFit! If I’m not at school, I’m either working as a patient care tech at Mary Greeley, or shopping for shoes to add to my sneaker collection. I can’t wait to meet you all and have an awesome year!

Joey

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology
Option(s): Occupational Therapy
Hometown: Spencer, Iowa
About me: Hello, my name is Joey! I am currently a 5th year senior. Despite my option, I am not actually pursuing a career in OT and instead am interested in a niche program known as cardiovascular perfusion. I currently work as a scribe in the ED at Mercy One in Des Moines. I enjoy doing anything with a board such as snowboarding or surfing, as well as soccer and lifting weights. An interesting fact about me is I originally came here to be a Veterinarian and changed majors after one semester.

Keyla

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology
Option(s): Pre-Physical Therapy
Hometown: Denison, Iowa
About me: I like to treat myself to boba from the 1+1 Tea shop after my exams. My favorite study spot is in the library; I usually reserve a room with friends. One thing that has helped me a lot has been to always ask for help when I don’t know the answer. And my favorite drink order from the Hub is the sparkling raspberry green tea.

Madeline

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology
Option(s): Pre-Health/Pre-Physical Therapy
Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska
About me: I have a huge passion for overall health and wellness! I believe that physical and mental health go hand in hand. I decided to pursue learning as much as possible about both through the Pre-Health division of Iowa State’s Kinesiology department. If I’m not in class or studying at Parks (I’m a great study partner if you need one) I like to spend my time exercising, working, or enjoying my friends’ company. I also have a huge passion for cooking and drawing when I find the time. I’m looking forward to my last year as a Cyclone and can’t wait to see what this semester holds!

Megan

Class: Senior
Major: Kinesiology and Health
Option(s): Community and Public Health
Hometown: Oskaloosa, Iowa
About me: Hi everyone! My name is Megan, and this is my third year here at Iowa State. As a community college transfer student, I hope to bring some valuable information and advice to our group. With a strong interest in surgery, I’ve decided to further my education by obtaining my Surgical Technology Certification after graduation. My favorite place to study on campus is the Student Innovation Center or Forker, but I also enjoy the peace and quiet in my office at home! I’m so excited for this school year and I look forward to meeting each of you!

Sydney

Class: Junior
Major: Kinesiology
Option(s): Pre-Physical Therapy
Hometown: Le Mars, Iowa
About me: My favorite food is cereal. My favorite place to study on campus is the first floor of the library. If I could choose a super power it would super strength.
